Seed Preferences of Wintering Henslow’s Sparrows
The Henslow’s Sparrow (Ammodramus henslowii), a species of conservation concern, winters primarily in longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) forest ecosystems in the southeastern U.S. These pine savannas have been reduced to 5% of their former range, with remaining patches requiring active management with fire to maintain characteristic structure and plant diversity. Wintering Henslow’s Sparrow abunda...
متن کاملOptimizing Seed Germination and Growth of Seedlings in Persian Walnut
The efficiency of conventional stratification methods for seed germination of walnut (Juglans regia L.), which uses long moist-chilling periods, is low. This experiment was conducted during winter to spring 2014 to optimize the seed germination of walnut ‘Chandler’ via changing growing media and removing seed mechanical dormancy. Fourteen treatments were tested. None of the seeds germi...
متن کاملGrowing genetic regulatory networks from seed genes
MOTIVATION A number of models have been proposed for genetic regulatory networks. In principle, a network may contain any number of genes, so long as data are available to make inferences about their relationships. Nevertheless, there are two important reasons why the size of a constructed network should be limited. Computationally and mathematically, it is more feasible to model and simulate a...
متن کاملSeed-Growing Heart Segmentation in Human Angiograms
Segmentation, Unsupervised clustering, Mean shift, Cardiac images, Human heart, Left ventricle. In this paper an image segmentation scheme that is based on combinations of a nonparametric technique and a seed based clustering algorithm is reported. The method has been applied to clinical unsubtracted angiograms of the human heart. The first step of the method consists in applying a mean shiftba...
متن کاملEndogenous rhythmicity of ethylene production in growing intact cereal seedlings.
Ethylene evolution from etiolated barley (Hordeum vulgare), wheat (Triticum aestivum), and rye (Secale cereale) seedlings during coleoptile growth followed a rhythmic pattern, with a period of about 16 h for barley and wheat and 12 h for rye seedlings. Leaf emergence disturbed the established rhythm of ethylene evolution.
